JULY
1 Family Nights feature "Tar Heel Traditions" bluegrass music NC Aquarium at Pine Knolls Shores 4-8 pm
1 "Sand in the Streets" Maurice William & the Zodiacs, Kinston
2 "Tuppence" Concert of Americana Trent River Coffee Co.
*2 "The Making of the State"- Participate in the 1st NC Provincial Congress" re-enactment, Tryon Palace Auditorium. 6pm. $4 adults; $2 students.
3-4 Juried Arts and Crafts Show featuring works by coastal artisans. Beaufort Historic Site, 100 Block of Turner Street, Beaufort. Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 12-5pm.
3 Beaufort July 4th Parade. Waterfront parade followed by free ice cream and music at the Carteret County Courthouse at Turner & Broad streets. Beaufort waterfront. 11am. FREE.
* 3 Colonial Crafts and Games plus the Palace gardens open to the public. Tryon Palace grounds. 9am-5pm. FREE.
*3 Fife & Drum Corps concert. 11 am Tryon Palace. FREE.
*3 Re-enactment of the original reading of the Declaration of Independence at the steps of the Tryon Palace as they did in 1776! following Fife and Drum Corps 11am. FREE.
3 Live Dance Music Concerts in the Park, 4:30 to 9pm. Union Point bandstand. Bring your own chair or blanket. FREE.
- "Peace and Love", Rhythm & Blues band dance music 4:30-6:30pm
- "Jackie Gore (of the Embers) and his Beach Music Band" Carolina beach music 7-9pm.
4 Ringing of New Bern's church bells celebrating Independence 12:15pm. FREE
*4 1836 Independence Day Gala Picnic- An 19thC Picnic recreating the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with re-enactors. Participate in period crafts, games, dancing and singing. Public invited to bring their own picnic lunch & blankets. New Bern Academy. 1-4pm. FREE
4 Tryon Palace open gardens. Grounds again open to the public. 1-7pm. FREE
4 World's Biggest Barbecue Bun by Moore's BBQ. Watch Tommy Moore and his team contend for the Guinness World Record! It'll feed 300 people! 1pm Union Point Park. FREE. Congrats to Moore's BBQ, they made the record books with a humongous pulled pork sandwich-with slaw. (They fed over 2,500 people with it!!!!)
*4 "1836 Reading of the Declaration of Independence and Ringing of the Academy Bell" by 19th century re-enactors, including character of 1836 Mayor George Dixon. New Bern Academy. FREE.
*4 "Reading of the Declaration" by Carolinian Shakespeare Company followed by National Anthem. 5pm Union Point Park.
4 Patriotic Music Concert by Craven Brass Ensemble and Tuba Four. Union Pt. 6:15pm-7pm and 8:30-9:15pm. FREE.
4 First "New Bern Fire Air Show". Amazing aerobatic stunts featuring New Bern's own aerobatic champion, Hubie Tolson, plus Spanish National Aerobatic Champ; 2007 World Air Show champion; Skydiving; wing-walking; USMC Helicopter Rescue "Pedro"and more...!!! Downtown New Bern; watch from Union Point Park and East Front Street. 7-8pm. FREE
